The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) undertook to complete an Integrated Sustainability Plan, one of the first Regional Districts to do so in British Columbia.
An integrated sustainability plan focuses on a particular community’s or entity’s practices and policies in order to discover practical solutions to contribute to the entity’s long terms sustainability. In partnership with the Whistler Center for Sustainability, SLRD planners engaged corporate staff as well as constituents of the region with online surveys and crowd sourcing techniques, multiple stakeholder workshops and open houses over a 24 month period to engage and inform the public.
The SLRD lead planning role was one of project management and liaison between levels of government, the Consultants and the public. Project tasks included public engagement, media outreach, meeting and open house coordination, contract administration, coordination and presentation to the Regional Board.
The SLRD ISP was adopted by the SLRD Regional Board in August 2013.
